GEM Equine About Us

The Practice

We pride ourselves on providing premium quality care for all our horses. This has been made possible by sourcing state of the art diagnostic tools and combining them with an experienced knowledge base.

GEM Equine specialises in the treatment of horses. This ensures that our knowledge base, experience and skills cater specifically for the needs of our clientele. These qualities allow for a more expedient diagnosis and appropriate treatment or management regimen to be implemented.

Georgina Parkin – Lead Veterinarian

Georgina Parkin (BVSc., Cert E.P., MRCVS.) qualified from The University of Melbourne with a first-class honours degree and spent her first three years’ in mixed practice. From there she went to work in a purely equine practice in Staffordshire where she attained a post-graduate Certificate in Equine Practice (Cert E.P.). In 2008 she moved to a purely equine ambulatory practice and in 2009 founded GEM EQUINE.

The Cert. E.P. was introduced by the Royal Veterinary College to distinguish top-quality local equine practitioners with a specific interest, skill set and knowledge base associated with that area of veterinary practice.

Nerissa Gillam – Veterinarian

Nerissa Gillam (BSc., BVSc., MRCVS.) I joined Gem Equine in 2020 after having qualified from The University of Bristol and have a second degree in Microbiology and Pathology. I am an experienced equine vet and enjoy all aspects of ambulatory practice and seeing your cheeky Shetland ponies to sports horses.
When I’m not at work I enjoy riding my horse Gem, playing hockey and walking in the Peak District. I’m busy training Gem’s foal and having all the challenges that come with a ginger filly. I am currently studying towards becoming an Advanced Veterinary Practitioner in Equine Medicine.
